Bluebird Car & Coach Park Opening Status: Closed. Cars trial opening 21st March. Coaches parking under development

Home » About Us

The Bluebird Car & Coach Park is a brand new amenity opening in Coniston village in the heart of the Lake District National Park during early 2025.

The car park will have parking for 70 cars including 6 EV charging points, disabled parking and reserved spaces for 6 coaches.

This new facility will be owned and operated by The Coppermines Lakes Cottages, who are already well known in the area as independent letting agents. We have been welcoming visitors to our quality cottage holidays in Coniston for nearly 40 years.

After consultation with the Campbell family, the Coppermines were delighted when permission was given by the Campbell’s to name the car park after Donald Campbells, record-breaking Bluebird K7 Jet Hydroplane.

The new car park is located just next door to Bluebird’s new home in the Ruskin Museum and will serve as vital parking for the museum, allowing even more people to view the legendary Bluebird.

The Bluebird Car and Coach Park will be a brand new, unique development for Coniston, which as well as providing much needed parking for the Ruskin Museum, will also serve as a transport hub for visitors to Coniston to transfer to sustainable onward transport from the village.

From the car park in Coniston village centre, visitors can park safely & responsibly, then visit Coppermines Valley,  hike the fells including Coniston Old Man, swim in the waterfalls, head down to the lake or browse the shops, pubs and cafes of Coniston.

There’ll also be an e-bike hire centre, public loos and bus stop – so visitors can jump on a bus or hire a bike and explore the rest of Lakes sustainably.

Plus, there will be free route maps detailing, local walks, hikes and trails that all start and end from the car park.

The Coppermines are also hoping to include Tramper hire from the car park so even more people can get out and about in the stunning local area.

Tickets will be on an all-day basis, with no time constraints. So visitors can park up, explore the spectacular landscapes of Coniston and Coppermines Valley, then spend time exploring the shops, cafes and pubs of the village including Herdwicks Café, Green Housekeeper Café and The Black Bull.

The car park will have parking for 70 cars including 6 EV charging points, disabled parking and reserved spaces for 6 coaches.

So, no more worries about parking and no more stress of trying to find somewhere to leave your car responsibly from early 2025, you’ll be able to confidently head to Coniston by car, safe in the knowledge they’ll be a space for you at The Bluebird Car and Coach Park.

You can follow the progress of The Bluebird Car and Coach Park, Coniston on their dedicated Facebook page.
